Why Work With Me?

Oh, do you mean besides the fact that I'm just plain fun to be around?

Here’s what you get when you make the best choice to work with me:

  • A true thought partner.

Let's banish the idea that writing is a solitary pursuit—something best done all alone in a dark, windowless room.

I love collaborating with my clients to get their books done. If you want someone who's invested in your project, you want to work with me. Period. Plus, I make ideation fun!

  • A direct line to what your audience is thinking.

Since I'm probably not an expert in your field, I can put myself in your target reader's shoes. This will ensure that what you write resonates with them.

It's not just about sharing your expertise. It's about sharing it in a way that speaks deeply to their needs and creating something they want to hear.

(Spoiler alert: If you don't know your audience, that's the first thing to figure out. But I can help!)

  • A steady rock who will get the job done.

I know what it’s like to be a business owner trying to get your message to stick. It can feel like screaming into the wind, am I right?

Luckily, we start with finding your best angle. The best Big Idea is the sweet spot in the Venn diagram encompassing your business strategy, what you're jazzed to write about, and what your audience needs to hear.

I'll stand with you as we make your book clear, compelling, and so fascinating it’ll be impossible to ignore.

  • A rebel and a rule-breaker.

Forget “the way we’ve always done it,” and embrace the best possible way to do it now.

I love clients who ask deep questions, aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo, and confidently forge their own paths.

We don't need to take down the patriarchy (today), but we can try to make things better than they are today.

  • A truth-teller

I’m not afraid to tell my clients they’re wrong.

When you hire me, you're not getting a vendor. You're getting an expert who has experiences to draw from. I'll always listen to your ideas, but I can't promise I won't push back.

You look like you could use a little more truth-telling in your life anyway, couldn’t you (couldn't we all)?

I’m the writing partner for you if you want to

  Avoid the pitfalls of self-publishing

  Fill your pipeline with clients

  Cultivate credibility

  Get on bigger stages

Own your idea (and use it to build your business)

Change minds (especially for others in your industry)

  Find your voice

Reach new eyeballs with your content

  Co-create

Truly, I’m not a great fit for authors who

Aren’t clear about their business goals

Are more about ego than effort

Aren’t willing to test and learn

Want to wait until the book is out to start marketing it (that’s a big no-no around here)

Don’t have one hour a week to invest in their book

Are just here for the best-seller status (you can pay for that elsewhere)

Yeah, Yeah, but just who the hell are YOU, Emily?

I’m so glad you asked

The short version? I’m THE ghostwriter and developmental editor for self-published business books.

But if you want a bit more, here you go—I’m a former philosophy professor who fled academia when I realized that ivy tower world is where Big Ideas go to die.

Too blunt? I’m nothing if not honest.

I mean, I loved teaching, researching, and writing philosophy; I just felt like my wings were clipped.

Before I wanted to be a professor, I thought marketing was cool (I also LOVE Mad Men—Peggy Olson is my alter ego). So when I had an opportunity to intern as a marketer for a friend of a friend, I unfurled my wings and jumped from that tower.

And as soon as someone called me a ghostwriter (I started out ghostblogging), I knew that's exactly what I was meant to do.

Luckily, my previous career equipped me with killer research skills and the ability to shine a light on complex subject matter. Both of which come in preeeeetty handy with ghostwriting and content strategy.

Since launching my business, I've worked with business owners and experts ranging from genius start-up founders who are over the status quo to seasoned industry leaders who have discovered a new way to put an old tool to work.

And let me tell you—it’s a total mind meld when the process works.

I love getting into a client’s head (in a totally non-creepy way, promise!) and capturing what’s uniquely amazing about their work.

Want to experience the mind meld for yourself?
